Two years ago, the iPhone 12 was banned in France for supposedly failing to pass some non-standard emission tests, which led to Apple pushing a software update, specifically for the region, to address this complaint. Now, the issue has come to light again.

Apple says the iPhone 12 is safe to use; calls out the French radio authority’s approach to testing

Apple will reportedly release a software update to reduce the transmitter power on the iPhone 12s after the EU has claimed that the phone does not pass health standards. This is because the previous update only rolled out in France, and not in other EU countries.

Now that the complaint has been brought up once again, Apple has disagreed that the iPhone poses any health risks, but is still readying a software update, which will be pushed in the coming weeks. In fact, Apple, in a recent statement, has said that it disagrees with the French radio authority, ANFR’s approach to testing the said phone.

We continue to disagree with ANFR’s approach to testing, but we respect the decision of the European Commission. Users can continue to use their iPhone 12 with full confidence, as always.

The issue from 2023 was addressed in an iOS 17.1 update. Apple had stated earlier that a software update wasn’t required and that it would work with regulatory bodies to rectify the issue, though it later ended up submitting an update to allow for the French government to reconsider the threat of banning the iPhone 12.

Apple is set to keep the low-cost iPhone (‘e’) in its lineup for a second year in a row. The SE, which was replaced by the iPhone 16e earlier this year, saw an upgrade every two years or so. Now, industry sources have claimed to have information on the spec data and release schedule for the upcoming “iPhone 17e.”

Apple to keep ProMotion from the iPhone 17e, expected to be priced close to $500

Reliable leaker and insider, Digital Chat Station, has stated that the next budget iPhone, the 17e, will be coming in Spring next year. It is expected to retain the modest $500 price tag, with an upgraded A19 Bionic chip.

Image: DCS via Weibo

Other industry insiders, such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (in his Power On newsletter), have also corroborated this claim.

The biggest upgrade, however, is said to be the final shift away from a notch-based display. The iPhone 17e is expected to come with a Dynamic Island pill-shaped cutout, similar to the more pricier Pros. Last year, the vanilla iPhone got the new screen style, and in 2026, the budget devices will also be getting their due upgrade.

One of the factors that will keep the iPhone 17e separate from the more pricier variants is potentially the absence of ProMotion. The $500 iPhone 17e is expected to come with a 60Hz display.

On the spec side, the iPhone 17e will retain the same 6.1″ display, will use a 12MP front-facing camera with FaceID, and will probably keep the 48MP sensor on the back, too. Of course, it isn’t known if this would be Apple’s “cheapest” iPhone next year, or if the Cupertino tech-giant has other surprises in store for next year, as well.

Apple’s new entrant, the iPhone 17 Air, will be making its way to mobile markets later this year as a slimmer, more affordable alternative to the flagship lineup. A new claim now states that this phone will come with a similar CPU setup to the more pricey Pros.

Weibo leaker, Fixed Focus Digital, who has a track record of accurate leaks, has pointed out that Apple will be using the A19 Pro on the iPhone 17 Air. This chip will have the same configuration, on the CPU side, though it will cut down on a GPU core.

Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo (translated)

The reduced core could be to contain thermal figures on the thinner Air, or simply the result of using binned chips from production. In any case, the A19 Pro for the iPhone 17 Air will come with a 5-core GPU, as opposed to a 6-core setup on the Pros.

The vanilla iPhone 17, though, is expected to come with the base A19 chip. This contradicts insider Ming-Chi Kuo’s claim of the iPhone 17 using the A18, but supply chain analysts have also now concluded that the A19 series will be used across the line.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Just two weeks before the release of the new Pixels, Google has released a teaser for the Pixel 10, subtly calling out Apple Intelligence for its delayed Siri AI update.

The 30-second video, uploaded to YouTube, is titled “Soon,” and it takes a jab at Apple for promising a more personalized Siri experience last year. Apple marketed the iPhone 16 line with Siri’s AI features that were supposedly never released.

With Snoop Dogg’s iconic “The Next Episode” in the background, the ad says:

If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon…
but it’s been coming soon for a full year…
you could change your definition of soon. Or you could just change your phone.

This refers to Apple Intelligence’s pending Siri upgrades that were to come out in 2024, but are instead delayed to 2026. In fact, some reports are now suggesting that Apple may be shifting its focus entirely to a ChatGPT-like search tool.

Not only did Google take a dig at Apple, but it also showed one of the phones from the Pixel 10 line, seemingly right after industry sources published unofficial CAD renders. This isn’t something new, per se, as last year, too, the Pixel 9 Pro was officially revealed much before the official release.

The Pixel 10 series is set to launch later this month, on August 20th, 2025, at the annual “Made by Google” event.

Apple’s historic practice of “fiscal frugality,” or careful spending, has most likely put it behind in the AI race, and while the company has tried to avoid jumping on the AI bandwagon, Apple CEO Tim Cook has now publicly said that he’s ready to spend more to catch up.

A reliable Apple insider, Mark Gurman, has claimed that Apple is planning to develop its own search engine, much closer to the ChatGPT experience. Siri’s AI upgrade was halted earlier this year, and Apple now has a major gap to fill in. Its other genAI features, like Genmoji, have not been met with the same excitement seen around other rival AI tools.

Image: Genmoji on iOS

Gurman has stated that Apple has formed an internal team, known as AKI, or “Answers, Knowledge and Information,” to create an AI experience that is similar to ChatGPT, for its ecosystem. Understandably, these claims are also being linked to Apple’s possible acquisition of the AI startup, Perplexity.

In any case, it is not certain at this point if Siri’s due upgrade will be cancelled in favor of a new search engine, but Apple has long waited for Apple Intelligence to shine, and it would possibly require more than a few niche features for the Cupertino tech giant to catch up to the competition.

Apple Silicon’s next crown jewel, the M5, will be making its way to Apple devices this Fall. The MacBook Pros and the iPad Pro are expected to be the first to get the upgrade, as numerous supply chain leaks have pointed to the mass production on TSMC’s 3nm N3P node for the chip.

M5 to stick to 3nm for this year, 2nm likely held back due to cost considerations

While the ‘Air(s)’ on both the Macbook and the iPad got their due chip upgrade early this year, the Pros will be the center focus for Apple in the second half of this year. After the iPhone’s September event, Apple is expected to hold another dedicated launch for its M5 lineup.

In Feburary of this year, rumors had it that Apple had started mass production on the M5 line. Since this year too, Apple is going 3nm, it is reasonable to put together that the 2nm route was likely not taken due to potential cost considerations.

If Apple keeps to its usual upgrade cycle for its custom silicon, we might be eyeing a late October release for the M5 MacBook Pro and the M5 iPad Pro, followed by an M5 MacBook Air and an Apple Vision Pro M5 upgrade in 2026.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Apple has been actively promoting its new F1 movie, and it’s starting to feel like the company is trying to pull all the strings to secure a strong opening weekend, especially with how much money they’ve poured into the project.

Now, they’re even sending out movie promo notifications through the Wallet app.

This weekend, Apple is launching one of its biggest Apple TV+ movie projects in a Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt. However, earlier today, the company went a step further in marketing the film when it pushed an Apple Pay promotional offer via the Apple Wallet app.

The deal is available to customers in the U.S., and it essentially allows you to purchase two movie tickets, via Fandango, at a 10% discount, using the code APPLEPAYTEN.

A lot of users who had received this notification weren’t exactly thrilled with getting offers via their Wallet app. Most saw this as a desperate attempt to secure better box office numbers. This move sparked a lot of criticism and discussions on platforms like Reddit, X, Facebook, and other forums.

It remains to be seen how the movie pans out when it comes to theaters on June 25 in Europe and June 27 in the U.S. and Canada. This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

Apple has now fixed one of the major complaints with the new Liquid Glass in the first iOS developer beta. The Control Center now gets a new, less glassy look in the second beta update, making the text much more readable.

Not only did the background get a tinge of Gaussian blur, but the buttons are now slightly more opaque as well. In the first release, the interface’s ‘glassiness’ meant that you could fairly easily see what was under the Control Center. However, that design hurt readability.

iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 (left) vs. Beta 2 (right)

The new update doesn’t entirely stray away from the inherent design scheme; it keeps most of the optical qualities of glass in the way it ‘bends’ light. You can still see the colors from the underside bleeding into the Control Center itself.

It’s now a bit more translucent, and a lot more legible.

This is all we know for now, but rest assured that we will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

At WWDC ’25, Apple announced the new iOS 26, which brings quite a few updates to existing core apps and a major design overhaul. The update will roll out to selected devices in September, but developers can now opt in public beta.

Here are the biggest new changes to iOS 26, from the “Liquid Glass” aesthetic to changing the way certain apps interact with you.

1. A new translucent, glass look

After nearly twelve years, iOS is getting a major aesthetic redesign. Apple is shifting all its major systems to a “Liquid Glass” design that heavily banks on a translucent, glassy look. The colours are now informed by the content on-screen, and the “liquid” refers to the idea of dynamically bending and shaping light in morphing UI elements according to the screen’s shape.

The new “transparent” Control Centre

You can now choose a third way to view apps via the “All Clear” icon look on your home screen. This theme makes icons transparent, blending into the general aesthetic of a “glass” look. It adapts to both light and dark environments.

The third icon theme: “All Clear.”

2. The new “Games” app

Apple has finally given iOS its due: a dedicated “Games” app, an all-in-one hub for gaming on iOS. It now fully replaces the Game Centre and has options to download new games, check pending updates, and “can’t miss” events. Based on your history, the app also gives recommendations and supports navigating the interface with a controller.

The “Apple Games” app on iOS 26

Apple Games will have a dedicated section for checking up on your achievements, online friends, and communication tools. The company recently brought AAA titles like Resident Evil Village, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Death Stranding to iPhones, and is expected to push into the gaming space more.

3. The Phone app can now identify (and deal with) spam calls

The Phone app also gets a visual upgrade, where the main screen is now more of an all-in-one space to look at everything important, quickly. It is divided into three sections, the top one being “Favourites,” the middle being occupied by “Recent calls,” followed by “Voicemails” at the bottom.

The new Phone app has a unified layout.

4. The Messages app gets polls, better privacy controls, and AI-powered custom backgrounds

The Messages app also adapts to the “Liquid Glass” aesthetic. But, for proprietary upgrades, it now has the option to set a custom background or even generate one via Image Playground. In group chats, users will now see typing indicators and can post “Polls” to get input from multiple people.

Polls in the Messages app

You can even send and receive Apple Cash from the app itself now. A new “Live Translation” feature has also been added that can translate text and audio from different languages almost instantaneously, using on-device AI.

Live Translation can translate text on the fly.

5. Visual Intelligence is now easier to access and use

You can now access Visual Intelligence features from anywhere on your iPhone. For any app you’re on, take a screenshot, like usual, which will open up the edit menu. You now have screenshot tools on the top, with Visual Intelligence features on the bottom. Now, you can use them to find similar images on Google or even ask ChatGPT about the content on-screen.

The screenshot toolkit with new Visual Intelligence features

These tools can help you search images and also perform specialised tasks. If the image on-screen is a date, the system automatically suggests “Add to calendar.” It’s somewhat reminiscent of Circle to Search on Android.
